Visitor or Dog Reactivity

Displays of aggression towards visitors coming to the house or towards other dogs whilst out walking on the lead is a very common issue these days. Reactivity can cause guardians a great deal of stress, however the most common reason dogs display this behaviour is fear. Once we understand this, it's much easier to implement the solution. There is no quick fix, we cannot cure fear or long established behaviours overnight, but we can help them resolve their worries and learn to offer alternative behaviours.

Puppy Training and Socialisation &

General Cooperation Training..

Training our puppies some basic requests such as 'settle', 'drop' and 'come' helps them understand what is required of them in certain situations, which is extremely important before they hit adolescence, as we will be competing with many other distractions and hormonal influences once they do. Having some tools in our tool box before they hit this phase is a must.

Socialisation is also extremely important if we want our dogs to grow up to be well balanced individuals, however, it's not a matter of exposing them to as many things on a list as possible, this is how we create reactive dogs in adulthood,  it must be done with care so that we don't unintentionally sensitise them to the environment. Adult dogs that lack training often live in a state of chronic stress because they don't understand what they should be doing. Just as we teach our children how to communicate, and what to do in social situations, we also need to teach our dogs, no matter what age.

Fear of Veterinary Care /Treatment

Sometimes our dog's health is such that they require regular treatment at the Vet or at home. If it's getting harder and harder to administer their medication or treatment due to them becoming more afraid, we need to adapt how we are going about this.

Lead Walking & Recall Sessions

Dogs pull on the lead for many reasons, these include fear of the environment/anxiety, excitement, lack of training or disassociation from the handler. It's important to work out why they pull in the first place so we can implement the best course of action. No amount of lead training will resolve pulling if they are doing it due to a fear of the environment.

When our recall isn't 100% we are risking our dogs lives. Learn how to train a consistently reliable recall.

Separation Anxiety & Isolation Distress

Our dogs just love being with us, so much so that they can struggle to cope alone when we leave the house. Living in fear of being left alone every time we go through a door and panicking on a daily basis when we do leave the house is no life for our dogs. This requires very careful therapy to help them grow in confidence and feel better about being alone. Its a gradual process.

Adolescence / Other Behaviour Issues

Whatever behaviour issue you're experiencing with your dog of any age, I'm here to help.

Resource Guarding

Resource guarding or stealing things and running away is a common issue in many households, luckily, it can be resolved quite easily with a few environmental changes, making sure they are getting enough mental stimulation and attention, and the right form of conditioning.

Excessive Barking

There are many reasons dogs bark, with anxiety being high on the list. Working out why your dog is barking excessively is the first step to finding and implementing the solution.
